You may be aware that we have a fondness for birds around here. So you can understand our eagerness to tell you about this awesome bird-related news item: A French theme park has taught crows to pick up trash.
We repeat: A French theme park has taught crows to pick up trash. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
According to U.K. paper The Mirror, Puy du Fou theme park in France’s western Vendee region has trained six crows — a species known for its intelligence and ability to use tools — to pick up cigarette butts and other rubbish. How? By way of a small box that dispenses a pinch of bird food each time the bird delivers a bit of trash.
“Nature itself can teach us to take care of the environment,” Nicolas de Villiers, president of the park, told the paper.
